‘What a Ship Show’ follows ‘Prime Minister in Exile’ Horris Franklin-Winkles, Etonian yes-man Edward Peep, and their special advisor Barty White as they flee to Guernsey.

After all three were wrapped up in a tempestuous tenure leading the country, their roles  within ‘Conform GB’,  are untenable. So, on the morning following election night, as the opposition are celebrating their mandate, these three are bobbing in a dinghy. Their goal? To take over the political class of the sunny Isle of Guernsey. On their journey they encounter boats, storms and as always, squabbles. Can these three succeed at sea where they failed in cabinet? The voyage is stormy, much like their political careers. 

Satirically daft and set in a raft, it’s political catharsis but also a warning for the future.

Loosely based on Chaucer’s Nun’s Priest’s Tale - an Aesop Fable style story about anthropomorphic chickens - Dougie Blaxland’s Chauntecleer & Pertlotte - subtitled “A Beasty Babel Fable” tells the quaint but utterly absurd story of how a jilted hen exacts eye-watering revenge on a faithless cockerel.

Winner of Best New Play at the Brighton Festival, Chauntecleer & Pertelotte has also been nominated for the Scotsman Fringe First Award and the Popcorn New Writing Award at the Edinburgh Festival.

Delivered in language combining elements of Chaucer with the “nonsensical gobbledy-gook” pioneered by comedy greats Stanley Unwin and Kenneth Williams Chauntecleer & Pertlotte has been described as “comedic and literary gold”.

With just two actors playing all 24 of the diverse human and animal characters that populate Blaxland’s outlandish “farmy-warmy” world Chauntecleer and Pertlotte is a ribbald romp of a play performed at “breakneck speed”.

1604, and the Pelican Tavern stands at the edge of the Thames near Execution Dock.  

Here, a former sailor serves a last quart of ale to those found guilty of Piracy, before they hang at the scaffold from a shortened rope.

Whilst he waits, he recounts his travels and tales of time spent at sea serving under Sir Francis Drake; the Circumnavigation, the massacre at Rathlin Island - and his own questionable career on the seas…

Stroud Arts Festival 80th Celebration

Under the Greenwood Tree follows members of the village choir as they are replaced by a church organ, set against the backdrop of a humorous love story. The book explores themes of love, social class, and the nostalgia for disappearing village traditions. 

The performance is a beautiful combination of spoken word, by renowned actor Mark Carey, and live music from the highly acclaimed ARKangel.
